Photo Essay: Miyajima, Japan – The Shrine Island

Itsukushima, popularly known as Miyajima is an island located not far from the city of Hiroshima.  I had the chance to take the ferry across to visit the shrine there.  It is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site and doesn’t disappoint.  Sadly, I wasn’t there for high tide.  This, I’ve been told, is the best time to view the shrine as it appears to be floating on the water.  The day was a bit grey and rainy, but I’m still very pleased I took the time to explore the island a bit.
